Your pet reptile is important to you. You already know they will be like a member of your family, so you also know how imperative it is to supply your pet with basic necessities. Vivariums can become rather cold because of the glass. When you live in a cool place it is essential to have the proper heating elements for your reptile. Even if you live in a desert you will need to regulate the temperature inside the cage. Below are a few of the heating products you might consider for your reptile.
Ceramic Reptile Heating: Ceramic heaters provide an infrared heat wave emission. There is no visible light that you can see, but the heat will nonetheless be there. The heat from a ceramic heater tends to work its way deep into the muscle tissue warming your reptile easily. You will want to examine the ceramic heater against others before you make your choice, though. A ceramic heater provides a high surface temperature, which means your reptile can get hot very quickly. The heater requires more supervision or at least a timer set up for correct intervals.
Reptile Heat Cables: Heat cables are exactly what they sound like. They will produce heat through a cable that lies on the bottom of the cage. They heat the surfaces they come into contact with. This type of heater is best for snake racking systems where you want a localised heating source in the cage. For example branches with cables wound around them can be a good example.
Reptile Heat Mats: Heat mats are significantly different from ceramic or heat cables. The mats will be placed under the substrate you provide in the cage. The mats produce infrared heat waves that move through the substrate to heat the reptile lying on top. You can also mount the mat on the side of the cage to help heat the objects and reptiles inside. Use a thermostat to regulate the heat mats or it could become too hot.
Reptile Heat Rocks: Many people prefer reptile heat rocks to the other methods. The rocks will actually become hot. It provides a nice basking area for your reptile without making the rest of the terrarium too warm. Many species of reptiles like to sun during the day, but you should still check your specific species to find out if the heat rocks will work for you. Consider the thermostatic control device along with the rocks to help regulate the temperatures.
Reptile Infrared Lamps: Lamps can also be heating devices for your reptile cage. Reptile heating products like the infrared lamp provide hot heat waves like the ceramic heaters. They can help during the night hours when your reptile does not need a lot of light, but requires warmth.
These various reptile accessories heating products for reptiles all provide various heat sources. You should research your species to decide what type of heating product will work best. Remember that some will require more attention from you and that may also need to be part of the decision.
